REVIEW: Her Dirty Best Friend by Adele Knight

Rating: 5 out of 5.

Her Dirty Best Friend is the second novella in Adele Knight‘s standalone series, Her Sweet Seduction. Lacey is an erotic romance author and needs inspiration for her publisher’s newest request: who better to turn to than none other than her muse, her dirty best friend Olly? Olly has been obsessed with the dirty mind housed in the innocent shell that is Lacey; he’d do anything to thrill and please her, so he’s taken to telling her every sordid detail of his latest hookups. But inspiration isn’t enough for Lacey anymore; she needs to experience more. What could go wrong with asking Olly to give her a few pointers to get that much-needed experience?

I could gush about this novella for what feels like forever, but as there isn’t enough room, I’ll try to be brief. My love for Lacey was immediate; I loved her chosen profession, and even more where her inspiration comes from: her intoxicating best friend Olly. A man she had desired from the very moment she saw him in class, it made perfect sense he was her muse, but the more she wrote about him in words full of the dirtiest of choices, the more she craved being the one beneath him. Watching her slowly realise that she is beautiful and sexy as she started to become the protagonist in her own book was delicious, and Olly being the one to push her made it both fun and heart-aching. When they finally crossed that line, I had to take a breather before continuing. I loved seeing Lacey take what she wanted, and Olly would give her everything and more if she just asked.

Olly, Olly, Olly, this man is everything. He’s desirable, charming, funny, and incredibly dirty. The inspiration he gave so freely was thrilling, but the reason he gave it was even more enticing. He is a man obsessed with his best friend, and just like Lacey, he is far too scared to admit it. Watching him come undone as he pushed Lacey to get what she wanted was so enthralling. He would truly give her everything, even if it wasn’t him, but watching him get angry over it made me smile. Naturally, my love for him only increased when he spoke my two favourite lines, ‘Mine’ and ‘Good Girl’, but I was internally screaming for him just to confess his feelings, but of course, if anyone was going to do it, it needed to be Lacey. And while I immensely enjoyed the spice that Lacey instigated, it was Olly’s opening up the idea to her, making her say what she wanted while at the same time taking what he wanted, that really hooked me. I’m certain the couple’s adventures will make for the most exciting clitrature Lacey will ever write.

There wasn’t a single thing about this novella that I disliked. I think I could read about all the dirty escapades that Lacey and Olly get up to forever and still demand more. Never in my life have I wanted to climb into a book and steal a main character so much; seriously, I need Olly. I love how utterly obsessed and desperate he was for Lacey and just how much Lacey desired more from Olly, but both were too scared to cross that line, and I’m so happy they did because, wow. The spice in Her Dirty Best Friend is electric; literally, every spicy scene was glorious. Lacey and Olly’s friendship was so sweet and humorous that I adored them both from the very first chapter. Thank you, Adele Knight, for the bonus extended scene. I’m very good with my spice poker face, but I was fanning myself after reading it. The spice-to-plot ratio is a little more tipped into the spicy range this time around, but the plot is there and very much carries through the novella. I think it’s clear what my rating is by now: Five out of Five stars, but honestly, if I could rate it higher, it would get every star. I’ll be rereading this one for years to come!

I would recommend this short and spicy novella first and foremost to those over the age of eighteen and then to all those that love a good friends-to-lovers romance, humour, dirty-mouthed male main characters, a smart female main character thrumming with desire and taking what she craves, a touch of voyeurism/exhibitionism, and of course, a HEA. Her Dirty Best Friend not only had male/female scenes but also some male/male and male/female/male scenes, all bound to get your heart racing. This is one of my favourites of the series, and I’m officially in love with Adele Knight for creating the obsessively intoxicating Olly and the intelligent and alluring Lacey. My review of the next instalment in the Her Sweet Seduction series is on its way.
