“There is something important I have been waiting to tell you, but I wanted to see you in person.”

“What’s that?”

“I want to turn human with you this summer.”

My breath escapes me. “What?” I can’t control the size of the smile on my face and the tightness in my throat.

“Really?” I whisper.

“Really. From the start of the first full moon in June, for seventeen days…the Rose Moon.” She draws her eyebrows together, then looks away. “Once I am human, I am fully human in every way. There are things about me in my natural state that you are drawn to, and I…”

She pauses and subtly shakes her head. I gently guide her face back to mine.

“You’re afraid I won’t be interested in you once you’re human?”

Her glistening eyes widen as her mouth slightly drops. I don’t think she expected me to blurt that out. “Yes,” she whispers.

I meet her gaze. “Not a chance.”

Keeping the tightness of our bodies together, I bury my face in her neck for warmth and shelter from the wind. But mostly, in submission to her.
